Q: Is this wood or MDF? If wood, what kind?
A: Hi Meridith! The Sauder Select Bookcase is made from engineered wood which is a combination of high-quality hard wood and soft wood residuals of other lumber processes.
Q: Can this be easily painted or does it have a laminate finish?
A: Hi Lisa! We do not recommend painting this bookcase, as the laminate finish may not properly bond with paint. This can lead to peeling, cracking, and other surface issues that could affect the overall appearance and performance of the furniture.

Q: Is there a version of this bookcase that is double or triple width? The problem with putting multiples together is there is a double frame - I was hoping there was a way to put multiples together without the double frame in between
A: Hi Linda! I am sorry we do not have this bookcase in a wider size.
Q: What are the dimensions of the three shelf bookcase? How much weight do the two middle shelves hold? Thank you.
A: The Sauder Select 3 Shelf Bookcase is 35 1/4" wide x 43 3/4" high x 13 1/4" deep. The bottom can hold up to 35 lbs. The adjustable shelves and top can hold up to 25 lbs. each.
A: A follow-up to Jenni's answer: 25 lb or 35 lb per shelf is not strong enough for books: A sample full shelf of random children's books weighed 40 lb; a full shelf of adult hardbacks weighed 50 lb; big reference books would weigh more. If you're planning to load this bookcase with books, you'll need to add reinforcements.
Q: Is the back panel a nail on piece of cardboard?
A: The paperboard back on the Sauder Select 3 Shelf Bookcase is attached with nails.
A: The assembly materials include a clever Nail Holder, a small plastic tool that gives you the right spacing and makes it easy to hold the tiny nails straight without hammering your fingers. Very useful; I'm keeping it in my toolbox.
Q: Is select cherry and classic cherry the same?
A: The Select Cherry finish has more brown tones and is slightly darker than the Classic Cherry finish.
Q: How much weight does the top shelf hold?
A: The top of the 3 Shelf Bookcase can hold up to 35 lbs.
Q: Is the back finished?
A: The back of the 3 Shelf Bookcase is unfinished. This bookcase is designed to be placed near a wall.

5-Year Limited Warranty
1. Sauder Woodworking Co. (Sauder®) provides limited warranty coverage to the original purchaser of this product for a period of five years from the date of purchase against defects in materials or workmanship of Sauder furniture components. As used in this Warranty, “defect” means imperfections in components which substantially impair the utility of the product. This Warranty gives you specific legal rights, and you may also have other rights which vary from state to state.
2. There is no warranty coverage for defects or conditions that result from the failure to follow product assembly instructions, information or warnings, misuse or abuse, intentional damage, fire, flood, alteration or modification of the product, or use of the product in a manner inconsistent with its intended use, nor any condition resulting from incorrect or inadequate maintenance, cleaning, or care. There is also no warranty coverage for rented products or any products purchased “used” or “as is”, at a distress or going-out-of business sale, or from a liquidator.
3. As the exclusive remedy under this Warranty, Sauder will (at its sole option) repair, replace or refund the value of any defective furniture component. Sauder may require independent confirmation of the claimed defect and proof of purchase. Replacement parts will be warranted for only the remaining period of the original Warranty. SAUDER SHALL HAVE NO LIABILITY for ANY INCIDENTAL OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES OF ANY KIND and all such damages are EXCLUDED FROM THIS WARRANTY, such as loss of use, disassembly, transportation, labor or damage to property on or near the product. Some states do not allow the exclusion or limitation of incidental or consequential damages, so the above limitation or exclusion may not apply to you.
4. This Warranty applies only to warranted defects that first arise and are reported to Sauder within the warranty coverage period. The Warranty cannot be transferred to subsequent owners or users of the product, and it shall be immediately void in the event the product is resold, transferred, leased or rented to any third party or person other than the original purchaser.
5. THERE ARE NO OTHER WARRANTIES APPLICABLE TO THIS PRODUCT. Under the laws of certain states, there may be no implied warranties from Sauder and all implied warranties, INCLUDING ANY IMPLIED WARRANTY OF MERCHANTABILITY OR FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE are disclaimed where allowed by law. TO THE EXTENT ANY IMPLIED WARRANTIES ARE APPLICABLE, ANY IMPLIED WARRANTIES, INCLUDING ANY IMPLIED WARRANTY OF MERCHANTABILITY OR FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, ARE LIMITED IN DURATION TO THE DURATION OF THIS EXPRESS WARRANTY or the minimum period allowed by law, whichever is shorter. Some states do not allow limitations on how long an implied Warranty lasts, so the above limitation may not apply to you.
